Captain Sir Tom Moore is surrounded by his family at Bedford Hospital after testing positive for Covid-19 yesterday, it has emerged.
The 100-year-old Second World War veteran is being treated for pneumonia and Covid-19.
The hospital has released the following statement:
“Bedford Hospital continues to care for Captain Sir Tom Moore.
“At this time members of Captain Tom’s family are with him.
“We respectfully request that media give the family space and privacy and do not contact them directly so they can focus on their father, grandfather and father-in-law.”
His illness was confirmed by members of his family yesterday evening, in a statement posted on the Sir Tom’s social media which read:
Sir Tom raised a staggering £32 million for the NHS during the first lockdown in April of last year as he paced 100 laps of his garden ahead of his 100th birthday.
He was acknowledged for his efforts by Her Majesty the Queen and was knighted at Windsor Castle in July 2020.
