No jail time for sick paedo who exploited “very young” children

A convicted paedophile who possessed a massive stash of images and videos of children being sexually abused, some of the victims as young as four, has been handed a suspended sentence.

Investigators from the National Crime Agency arrested 21-year-old Abid Miah in May 2020 on suspicion of making, distributing and possessing illegal images of children. The sick files, described by a senior officer as the “most distressing my team have had to view in a long time”, were found on his phone, a memory stick and his laptop.

Among the files were two videos of sexual abuse against “very young” girls, the NCA reports. In one of them, the child is seen being tortured as well as sexually assaulted.

Of the 493 indecent images recovered by investigators, 177 were judged to be category A, the most serious. There were just under 160 category B and C images in his vile archive, which the IT student encrypted and stored in secret folders on the cloud.

Having initially answered ‘no comment’ when questioned by officers, Miah admitted to three counts of possessing indecent images at Newcastle Crown Court. He was sentenced to 12 months in jail, suspended for two years.

“Abid Miah possessed some truly horrific material, some of it was the most distressing my team have had to view in a long time,” said Tracy Holbrook, NCA senior investigating officer.

“Miah tried to conceal his offending by using a fake email address and encrypted storage applications.

“Protecting children is one of the NCA’s biggest priorities and we will do everything we can to safeguard victims and stop offenders.” The NCA state that the videos were known to officers, the abuse took place abroad and the children “were safeguarded”.

However, Miah’s non-existent jail time will cause outrage among law and order advocates. The monster is being sent on a rehabilitation course. Punishment only goes as far as giving up electronic devices and being prevented from activities such as accessing certain sites and platforms on the internet under a Sexual Harm Prevention Order.

Had he been caged by the judge, Miah could have well faced the kind of prison justice violently delivered to fellow nonce, Kadian Nelson at Wandsworth prison. Yesterday, The Foxhole reported Nelson’s beating by fellow inmates just hours after fessing up in court.

Kadian, 26, kidnapped and raped a 13-year-old girl. He will be sentenced in August.
