The mother of one of 13 American servicemen killed in Thursday’s suicide bombings outside Kabul airport has launched a ferocious attack against Joe Biden who continues to dismay the American public with his handling of the disastrous Afghanistan withdrawal.
Following the completion of Britain’s evacuation over the weekend, American officials and military personnel still in Afghanistan are due to leave by Tuesday, the original, arbitrary deadline set by the President.
He is suffering significant heat at home following the botched withdrawal, now singed onto the American consciousness by Thursday’s horrifying attack that killed more than 200 people.
Another headache for the White House is incoming Hurricane Ida. In a frightening parallel with the Afghanistan withdrawal, the tropical storm’s rapid advance has caught officials in New Orleans by surprise, the window of opportunity to evacuate the city has now closed. Residents are being told to “hunker down”. Ida is striking on the 16th anniversary of Hurricane Katrina that claimed the lives of 1,800 people.
Hurricane Ida set the stage for yet another shocker from Biden. At a press conference on the emergency about to hit America’s Gulf Coast, the commander in chief was inevitably asked by reporters to comment on Afghanistan. On Saturday, American drones launched missiles against an ISIS-K target causing a massive explosion, three children were killed.
Having told the press corps “I’m not supposed to take any questions but go ahead”, Biden quickly retracted after he was given a tricky Afghanistan query. The president cut off the reporter, telling him. “I’m not gonna answer on Afghanistan now”.
The bodies of the 13 fallen servicemen arrived home yesterday. Biden flew to Dover Air Force Base unannounced as the coffins draped in the American flag were transferred from the C-17 Globemaster. He joined defence secretary, Lloyd Austin and other military chiefs in a prayer.
Relatives were hidden from view by a line of buses. Howling could be heard as the coffins emerged from the giant aircraft. Biden later met with the grieving families.
But it would have been little comfort for Kathy McCollum, the mother of 20-year-old Rylee, one of the thirteen who perished in Kabul last week.
“My son was one of the marines that died yesterday,” Mrs McCollum said in a radio interview on Friday (you can listen to the audio below).
“[He was] getting ready to come home from freaking Jordan to be with his wife to watch the birth of his son and that feckless, dementia ridden piece of crap just sent my son to die.”
She went on to savage the Democrats, accusing them of ending her son’s life. “My son is gone, and I just want all you Democrats who cheated in the election, or who voted for him legitimately, you just killed my son with a dementia ridden piece of crap who doesn’t even know he’s in the White House who still thinks he’s a senator.”
Thursday’s atrocity was the first to claim American lives in Afghanistan since February 2020.
